Garden Designs

These selected design concepts reflect a signature approach to naturalistic, climate-responsive garden design. Utilizing advanced 3D visualization, these projects illustrate the transformation from initial site analysis to a curated, resilient sanctuary. Each design explores how thoughtful spatial planning and global horticultural standards global horticultural standards can respond to local conditions and the needs of those who use the space.

The Challenge: A historic walled garden that lacked structural flow and dedicated entertaining zones. The goal was to create a cohesive naturalistic design that honored the 18th-century architecture while modernizing the garden’s utility.

Naturalistic Entertaining: This 3D perspective showcases the new barn conversion leading to a sunken patio and firepit. The surrounding dry bed garden utilizes a climate-responsive palette to provide year-round texture and beauty with minimal water requirements.

The Challenge: Creating a vibrant, communal outdoor space shared by a local cafe and wine shop. The goal was to transform a transitional area into a lush, inviting garden that serves customers from both businesses while maintaining a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant profile.

The Conceptual Visualization features a naturalistic planting scheme of perennials and California natives, providing year-round interest and habitat for local pollinators. The rendering allows the client to see how the native Californian palette will look in the city's unique light and fog.  The layout includes: Flexible Seating: Quiet pockets of tables and chairs tucked among the greenery to allow for intimate conversation or solo work. Visual Continuity: Large windows in the cafe offer a seamless view of the garden, making the interior feel more expansive and connected to nature. Climate-Responsive Palette: Selection of hardy, water-wise plants that thrive in San Francisco's unique microclimate.

The Challenge: Transforming a steeply sloped garden with a small, dark, below-ground patio into a multi-functional outdoor living space. The goal was to eliminate the unusable slope and create dedicated levels for recreation and entertaining.

The Design Concept: This conceptual redesign utilizes a terracing solution to maximize the garden's footprint. The layout features: Expanded Lower Patio: A larger, more open paved area at the house level to improve light and accessibility.
